Most Instagrammable Places in Munich

Residenz

You can either love or hate this place because, let’s face it, it is a lot for the eye.

But one thing is sure: Residenz deserves to be at the top of the list regarding the most Instagrammable places in Munich.

Yes, you need to pay to visit, but this place is filled with history and art, and you will learn many exciting things.

Extra TIP: Enjoy a classical concert in the Hofkapelle, where Mozart used to play. After that, go on a tour of the Residentz and enjoy dinner and a beer! See more here!

Admission fee: 7 Eur for the Residence Museum

Address: Residenzstraße 1, 80333 München, Germany

Juristische Bibliothek (Municipality Law Library)

Another stunning place perfect for that fantastic picture is the Municipality’s Law Library stairway, which will impress you at first sight.

Fortunately, you don’t have to be a law student to visit it. It is open to the public, and all you need to do is book a guided tour of the Neues Rathaus (New Town Hall).

Book your tour here for 18 EUR and enjoy the Library and much more art and architecture.

Admission Fee: 10 EUR

Address: Marienplatz 8, 80331 München, Germany

Hofgarten

This small garden, perched between Residenz and the English Garden, is one of my favorite places in Munich. It is so pretty with its Diana Pavillion.

This is where people come to do yoga, dance, or listen to music played by street artists. But this is also one of the most Instagrammable places in Munich.

Address: Hofgartenstraße 1, 80538 München, Germany

Chinesischer Turm in English Garden

In the heart of Munich’s largest park, the Chinesischer Turm is a beer garden.

Why not come here and drink a massive cup of beer, or maybe a Radler with an enormous pretzel, and take a few Instagram-worthy pictures in Munich?

Address: look up Chinesischer Turm on Google Maps, and you’ll find it.

Siegestor

Close to Munich’s University and just outside the English Garden, Siegestor is perhaps one of the landmarks you’ll recognize in Munich.

The Siegestor in Munich is a three-arched triumphal arch crowned with a statue of Bavaria with a lion-quadriga. It is hard to miss when passing it by since it occupies the center of the street.

Extra: Go on a walking tour with a local: that’s the best way to see the city’s hidden gems, find out about cool places to go to, but also learn about its history. See more here!

Monopteros in the English Garden

Another one of Munich’s most popular Instagrammable places, the Monopteros, will also be hard to miss since it is standing on the top of a hill in the English Garden.

It is beautiful in each season. You can capture it with flowers in bloom around it or with autumn’s gorgeous colors.

Address: 80538 Munich, Germany

View from the Townhall Tower

You’ll see the Townhall Tower in the heart of Marienplatz, Munich’s central square.

Step inside and try not to get lost in the many corridors with impressive arches. Climb to the tower’s top and be seduced by one of the best picture spots in Munich.

Admission Fee: 4 EUR

Location: Marienplatz 8, 80331 München, Germany

Marienplatz

Since you are already here and have climbed the Townhall Tower, why not take a picture from the square?

Marienplatz Square has many pretty angles and offers many picture opportunities, as you’ll see.

Umschreibung

Or the stairway leading to nowhere.

Hidden between office buildings, inside the KPMG building courtyard, this stairway is an art object that can be climbed without actually getting you anywhere.

“Umschreibung” is a German word that means “euphemism” or “circumlocution,” and the owner is a Dutch artist. However less interested in art you might be, this is still one of the most Instagrammable places in Munich.

Address: inside the KPMG building courtyard.

The Hofbräuhaus am Platzl

The beerhouse, dating from 1589, is one of Munich’s most popular attractions and one of the top things to do there, no matter the season.

As you might expect from such a popular place, it is always crowded, and prices are pretty high, but that should not stop you from taking a beautiful picture just outside the Hofbräuhaus.

Address: Platzl 9, 80331 München, Germany

Oktoberfest & wearing a dirndl dress

No, I haven’t been to the Oktoberfest in Munich, mainly because the town gets crazy expensive (more than usual) and super crowded, and I don’t like beer.

But that shouldn’t stop you from attending the most famous (apart from the Munich Christmas Market) event in Munich. Also, wearing traditional Bavarian clothing at the celebration is lovely, a dirndl dress.

When? Unlike the name says, Oktoberfest starts in the second part of September and stretches out into the first part of October.

Address: Theresienwiese, in the middle of Munich’s Ludwigsvorstadt-Isarvorstadt district.

LAX Eatery mural

In one of Munich’s poshest districts (Schwabing), close to the English Garden and the town center, LAX Eatery offers delicious food and a great Instagram spot.

From Instagram-worthy dishes to the beautiful, colorful corner mural, you should not miss this place!

Address: Neureutherstrasse 1 || Ecke Barer Strasse

The Bayerischer Hof Hotel

I met a lady business leader who lived at the 5* ultra-luxurious Bayerischer Hof Hotel. Apart from her residence, she rented a room only to store her shoes. She was French; perhaps that explains her care for fashion items.:)

You don’t have to rent a room to glimpse the hotel’s beauty. You can go for a drink on the rooftop bar or just take some pictures.

Address: Promenadeplatz 2-6 D-80333 München.

Mandarin Oriental Rooftop bar

Another luxurious spot in Munich that will charm your senses with excellent quality and design.

Enter the hotel through the main door and head right to the elevator. Climb to the rooftop bar of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, which offers fantastic views over Munich’s skyline. It is lovely just before sunset.

Address: NEUTURMSTRASSE 1, 80331 MUNICH, GERMANY

Between Marienplatz and Odeonplatz, the Cuvilliés Theatre in Munich stands gloriously on a corner of the road.

Both the inside and the outside of this building are stunning. Thus, if you have enough time, you should buy a ticket and attend a play or an opera in Germany’s finest Rococo theatre.

Odeonsplatz and the Lions

Exiting Odeonsplatz U-Bahn, you’ll be in the middle of this magnificent square.

Around you, there will be the Odeon, the Residenz, and the Theatine Church.

Also, here is the Feldherrnhalle with the lions inspired by the Logia dei Lanzi in Florence, which served as a memorial during the Nazi regime to the Nazis killed during the failed putsch.

Address: Odeonsplatz U-Bahn stop

Marienplatz U-Bahn station

Since we’re close and you’ve already stepped inside Munich’s metro stations, why not take a pretty orange picture in Marienplatz’s U-Bahn station?

I must admit I hadn’t considered it a perfect picture spot in Munich until I saw that The Arctic Monkey’s video was also filmed here. I thought this was a cool place, creating a great visual illusion.

Gärtnerplatz

The Gärtnerplatz area is one of the coolest in Munich, filled with hip bars, trendy cafes, and restaurants serving international cuisine.

But that’s not all. Munich’s go-to place for beautiful pictures is the pretty square with a water fountain in the middle filled with colorful flowers.

Address:  Gärtnerpl.80469 München, Germany

Justizpalast Munich

Believe it or not, the Palace of Justice is also a tremendous Instagrammable place in Munich.

Located in Karlsplatz, I passed it by many times without thinking about what it hides in the interior. The beautiful staircase and its areaway constructed in neo-baroque style are the go-to places for stunning pictures in Munich.

Admission fee: free

Extra TIP: How cool would it be to admire Munich from above? That would make for the perfect video! Take a 1-hour flight with a local pilot, and admire Munich’s most important landmarks from above! See more here!

Hotel Opera Munich

It is another charming hotel both on the outside and on the inside. While the Hotel Opera‘s entrance will be what you see in most Instagram posts and articles, I was taken away by the hotel’s interior.

Imagine waking up and enjoying a peaceful coffee in this little corner while letting the sun caress you. If that’s not a zen moment, I don’t know what is.

Westfriedhof U-Bahn station

You might think I have a thing for U-Bahn stations, but it’s not like that. Munich has nothing on Stockholm’s artsy metro stations but still has some cool ones.

We reached this U-Bahn station while going to the next point on the list, but it did not look so charming in the middle of the day when it was packed with people. However, a skillful photographer (or Instagrammer) and an almost empty station early in the morning or late at night can turn this place into one of the most Instagrammable spots in Munich.

Nymphenburg Palace

If you have a free day in Munich, this is the place you need to visit!

I must admit Nymphenburg Palace and its gardens are one of my favorite places in Munich, so close to the city center, easily reachable by public transportation, and yet so secluded.

You don’t have to judge by the crowds of tourists visiting this place. Head back to the main Palace and get lost in the enormous park.

Learn about its history on a Nymphenburg Palace and Gardens Private Tour

Admission Fee: combination ticket 16.5 EUR, just the park palaces 4.5 EUR

Olympia Park and the Olimpic Tower

The park was constructed for the 1972 Summer Olympics, but it also looks very nice today. It is the perfect place to go for a walk, a picture, or a concert.

Climb the Olympic Tower and get the most beautiful view over Munich from above, or have dinner in the sky with the starlight.

Admission fee: 9 EUR for the tower

Address: Helene-Mayer-Ring 4, 80809 München, Germany

Occam Deli Coffee shop

With its simple yet pretty design, the Occam Deli Coffe shop is the perfect destination for brunch in Munich or lunch with the girls on the weekend.

While it does not have murals or other spots specifically for Instagram pictures, the food and coffee look fantastic, and the careless design leaves room for creativity.

Eisbachwelle

If you’ve ever considered visiting Munich and have done at least one Google search on the top things to do in Munich, you have undoubtedly stumbled on the Eisbachwelle.

This is the small man-made river in the English Garden where you’ll see people surfing.

The spot is trendy because no matter the season, youngsters make a show and showcase their surfing skills on the small arm of the Isar River in the heart of Munich.

Address: Prinzregentenstraße, 80538 München, Germany
